Programme Overview

The Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) programme at Entrance University of Health Sciences is designed to train highly skilled dentists capable of delivering comprehensive oral healthcare across diverse clinical settings.

The programme integrates foundational medical sciences with specialized dental training and extensive supervised clinical exposure. Students develop strong diagnostic abilities, precision-based clinical skills, effective patient communication, research competence, and a solid ethical foundation.

A key strength of the programme is access to the Entrance University Dental Hospital, which provides students with valuable hands-on clinical experience to complement their academic training.

Graduates are well-prepared to undertake housemanship, sit for licensure examinations, pursue postgraduate specialization, and engage in independent clinical practice in line with national and international standards.

Course Structure

The Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) programme at Entrance University of Health Sciences spans six academic years and offers comprehensive training in dentistry, combining scientific knowledge, clinical practice, and patient-centred care.

For the first three and a half years, dental and medical students follow a shared curriculum, taking the same core courses. The only distinction during this period is that dental students undertake additional specialized courses in Oral Biology and Tooth Morphology.

The Entrance University Dental Hospital serves as the primary facility for clinical dental training, with additional support provided by the University of Ghana Dental School.

Admission Requirements

Admission requirements for the Dental School are as follows:

Applicants must have obtained three (3) credits (with at least Grade A1-C 6 in WASSCE and A-D in SSSCE) in the following core subjects:

  • Mathematics
  • English
  • Integrated Science

In addition, applicants must have obtained three (3) credits (A1-C6 in WASSCE and A-D in SSSCE) in any three of the following elective subjects:

  • Chemistry ( Mandatory)
  • Physics
  • Biology
  • Elective Mathematics

In addition, there will be a selection interview for admission into the programme.

International applicants and Ghanaians with External Educational Credentials acceptable for Admission include the following:

  • Senior Secondary School Certificates (WASSCE/SSSCE)
  • International Baccalaureate (IB)
  • GCE (Cambridge) – ‘O’ and ‘A’ Levels
  • IGCSE (Cambridge) – ‘O’ and ‘A’ Levels
  • American High School Grade – Grades 12&13 examinations
  • Other external qualifications which have equivalences to the WASSCE/SSSCE and the GCE (A Levels)

Equivalences to WASSCE/SSSCE in all cases shall be determined by the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC).

General Entry Requirements for other Educational Credentials

  • IGCSE/IB – To be admitted to the Programme, IGCSE/IB holders must possess at least Grades A*/A-C in English, Mathematics and Biology at the Standard (SL/’O’ Level), in addition to three Higher Level (HL-A to C)/’A’ Level (A to d)/IB2 (A-C) grades in Chemistry, Physics, Biology and Mathematics.
  • GCE (Cambridge)
  • American High School Grade – Grades 12&13 examinations

Applicants holding first degrees:

Applicants holding a good first degree in Sciences, Mathematics, as well as degrees in related health professions from a recognized University will also qualify for consideration.

Tuition

Tuition fees are payable in Ghanaian Cedis, except  for foreign applicants.

Ghanaian Applicants:
GHS 47,250.00 – (per semester)

International Applicants:
USD 5,000.00 – (per semester)

NB. Fees are subject to review by the University Council.

Clinical training is conducted in partnership with accredited hospitals and healthcare institutions to ensure exposure to real-world patient care across multiple medical disciplines.
